Passing out is perfect.Early skull cavern goal is to make it to floor 100. Start with that, but here's what I would recommend. Stock up on lots of food. (Cheese is usually best cause it's easy to make and gives great heals) and craft lots of bomb. Or buy from dwarf if available. Go to desert trader.
